Nonante Hall
After several months of work, La Manufacture is expanding and completing its infrastructure with the opening of a new space dedicated to stage work, which will broaden the rehearsal and performance opportunities for students in the school's various study programmes.
La Manufacture was established in 2003 at Grand-Pré 5 in the former gemstone cutting factory, one of the last vestiges of the industrial past of the Malley plain. The construction of this new building seeks to reinforce the site's strong identity.
In keeping with the coherence of the existing built ensemble, the new volume is inserted beneath the cornice of the existing building so as not to alter it. Rather than presenting itself as a “black box,” the building seeks to contribute to the revitalization of Rue du Grand-Pré as a public space for social interaction.
A large opening to the south, composed of six reused windows from the existing building, recalls the building's industrial past. The main structure of the building, made of metal beams from the Ressourcerie (FR), is 80% reused and left visible.
