Marie Jeger was born in 1992 and grew up in a small village in Switzerland. Before getting in touch with contemporary dance she worked as an assistant in several theaters and studied music peadgogy / viola (Musikakademie Basel and HKB Bern, music and movement/rhythmique). Within music and pedagogy the body became her central interest. At age of 24 she starts to practice dance regularly and finds interest in choreography. After visiting the Intensive Course at SNDO in Amsterdam she enters the BA in Contemporary Dance at La Manufacture and graduates in 2021. She is mainly inspired by workshops and creations with Thomas Hauert, Eugénie Rebetez, Vera Tussing, Gregory Stauffer, DD Dorvilier, Simone Aughterlony, Marcelo Evelin among many others.
Her tools in performance are body, voice and viola. Performing as a dancer and musician she is currently based in Basel (working with cie.zisch, Sarina Scheidegger, Rahel Kraft, Gina Eté, Kleinmond, and her own stringtrio 'crème sauvage'). She is also giving workshops in the field of music and movement at HEAD, ETH and Musikschule Basel. Her first choreography „wesen" was shown in Bivouac Lausanne, Theater Roxy and will be developped to a group piece in 2023 at Klingental Basel. Her choreographical approach happens by playing with the shape of the human body and navigation of thoughts and movements.
